Macro context to micro environmental employee perceptions

Macro and micro context is vital when understanding data. Below is some macro context we have been using to better understand how this is effecting current employee perceptions.

2024 brings another wave of challenges and opportunities for the future of work. Organisations face unprecedented uncertainty with global talent shortages and the mandate to control rising costs and measure risky technology’s productivity returns. In addition to this there is a shifting EVP, crumbling career assumptions, AI reshaping work, new manager necessities including conflict resolution and finally, that DE&I doesn’t disappear it becomes the way we work

(Emily Rose McRae, Gartner Senior Director Analysist)

Macro environmental context:

  • Ai revolution – exciting and scary at the same time.
  • Global conflict and misinformation creating a more polarised world.
  • Inflation and cost of living impacting mental health and well being.
  • Increasing lack of trust in leaders around the world.
  • A higher expectation from our senior leaders when committing to role modelling DEI behaviours.
  • Increases in awareness of DE&I drives an increase in expectations.
  • Celebrating and harnessing individual differences has become mainstream in the Western world.

It is fair to say that the above context has contributed seems to be resulting in less positive employee perceptions. That said our continued research into the science of relationships shows us that the following core views have not changed:

  • People need joint vision, belonging and ability to help each other.
  • Organisations become center stage for setting the values of society as religion declines.
  • We are social animals and need meaningful not transactional interactions
